“Iris”

I don’t recall what I was watching tonight but I heard the song “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls, an “oldie but goodie” as Joanna would call it. Its such a powerful song and for reason I’ve been really drawn to it tonight. It seems the closer things get to being the way I want them to be, the harder it is for me to wait. In so many circumstances in my life, I’m constantly reminded of the truth in the statement: “When words fail, music speaks.” The words in this song are quite powerful and resonate with me so much right now. However it is the music and the passion with which the words are sung that tug at my heart strings and bring tears to my eyes. I’m having to learn patience in an all new way, but I love that even in moments of despair, the smallest things bring hope.  Call me crazy, but am greatly comforted by the fact that while reading up on irises, I found this splendid fact:

The Purple Iris is the State Flower of Tennessee.

“Iris”

And I’d give up forever to touch you,
Cause I know that you feel me somehow.
You’re the closest to heaven that I’ll ever be,
And I don’t want to go home right now.

And all I can taste is this moment,
And all I can breathe is your life,
And sooner or later it’s over,
I just don’t want to miss you tonight.

And I don’t want the world to see me,
Cause I don’t think that they’d understand.
When everything’s made to be broken,
I just want you to know who I am.

And you cant fight the tears that ain’t coming,
Or the moment of the truth in your lies.
When everything feels like the movies,
Yeah you bleed just to know you’re alive.

And I don’t want the world to see me,
‘Cause I don’t think that they’d understand.
When everything’s made to be broken,
I just want you to know who I am.
